I knew in an instant ..... she was meant to be pink!
I bought this wonderful vintage vanity from a sweet young couple on Craigslist. We met in a parking lot on a Sunday morning. Needless to say, I did not go alone ... because hey, you just never know!
She needed a few repairs and had certainly been well used over the years. And even though I mixed up some homemade chalk paint, I still gave her a good scrubbing and a once over with a sanding sponge. People always ask about skipping the prep work with chalk paint. My feeling is that chalk paint minimizes, but does not totally eliminate all prep work. And that goes for the chalk paint straight out of the can too. No need to break out the heavy sander, but smoothing out the rough edges and knocking down the shine a bit only takes a few minutes and you'll be much happier with the end result. And yes, you can totally skip the primer - yeah!
She got a light distressing to highlight the edges.
I just love these pulls!
And I finished her up with a nice coat of wax.
There are a lot of good wax options out there, but my go-to favorites are still Minwax and SCJohnson. They are easy to use, readily available, reasonably priced and most importantly, give you a beautiful smooth finish. Just apply with a soft cloth or a wax brush if you happy to have one, allow to dry to a haze (20 to 30 minutes should do it) and buff with a clean soft cloth - perfection!
Isn't she sweet?
Hmm, I'm thinking maybe she needs a cute little seat.
It would have to be pink, of course!

She looks great in pink! Hope you find a cute bench/chair for it soon!
This is a gorgeous piece, Sharon! As always I'm amazed by your talent to transform pieces. Megan
I love the color! Being surrounded by boys over here means that I am not given much room for pink. :)
Sharon, Good for you being smart meeting people . I like the after so much better. Smiles, Susie
Wonderful desk, I love the transformation, how a simple white can update a furniture so much and make it look so elegant. I like it very much, thanks for showing it.
Sharon, you have done it up right and then some! Now what will you do with her? Will you keep her in all her pink glory?

Beautiful - and definitely the right choice for this vintage piece. Can you elaborate on the wax(es) you use -- full name, etc. Do they come in a can? I am almost out of my Annie Sloan and while I love it, it IS expensive.
so sweet! i love that soft shade of pink and love the handles. they give it extra vintage flair!
Sharon,
I agree she looks beautiful in pink. And just the right shade too!

Very sweet and oh, so vintage! Love it!
She's so sweet! I love her! x
She is just beautiful! I love that soft, soft pink color. 1930s? I like the very light distressing on this piece...rather than the heavy hand- xo Diana
She surely is cute! Another homerun Sharon!
Beautiful job updating this piece! It's so sweet and dainty. :)
I really like what you did! I admire you for having the ability to transform...something I'm not so good at!
gorgeous Sharon :)
I love how you chose such a subtle pink. So soft - and perfect!
My daughter would just adore this vanity, and it would be such a great gift for her. I wonder if I could find one and paint it in time for Christmas. I wonder how I'd hide it from her. See how you get my mind going??? Hmmm...
This is so sweet! I love the barely there color of pink. It seems so vintage and not at all cutesy, but sophisticated pink. Great work!
The color looks great! It looks so good. I'm a new follower and would love if you followed back at www.iheartpears.blogspot.com
Sharon, it turned out great! A friend of mine had the same vanity with a mirror when we were growing up. I wish she still had it. Thanks for sharing at Throwback Thursday.
