Cottage Green Dresser

Little cottage style dressers are just my very favorite pieces of furniture and I'm totally loving this one!

And the funny thing is, it's been sitting in my garage for several months. I just wasn't feeling very inspired by it. A neighbor dropped it off and it just looked so sad.

But once I finally looked beyond the shiny finish, the wonky drawers and the dangling hardware, it really was in surprisingly good shape.

I know, hard to believe right?

And it's getting to be that time of year. Our holiday sale is right around the corner and I need to wrap up painting so my car can reclaim the garage for winter. So I've been a woman on a mission this week - a woman with a paint brush in her hand!

Once I sanded her down, I was excited to see that just maybe the top was in good enough shape to stain.

Actually, the top was in near perfect condition!

I used a pre-stain conditioner, dark walnut stain and two coats of poly. Be sure to sand lightly between coats of poly, it makes all the difference!

The body of the dresser is a custom mix of Annie Sloan Antibes Green Chalk Paint and some leftover aqua paint (remember I'm cleaning out the garage). I personally love the color Antibes Green, but some people find it a bit bright. My friend Karen at Restyled Vintage (her dining set was featured at the party on Tuesday) has painted quite a few pieces in a custom mix using Antibes Green and she inspired me to do a little mixing of my own. I just love the resulting shade of cottage green!

And don't you just love sweet little details like keyholes!

I just happen to be married to the drawer whisperer so that wasn't a problem and of course shiny new hardware was a must!

After painting, I gave the body a light distressing and finished up with a coat of wax.

I'm really excited about the way this one turned out! Now it's back to the garage. I have the cutest white cottage style china cabinet to finish. And like I said, I'm a woman on a mission!

It really did look tired and unloved, but your color choice and saving the top was just what the doctor ordered! It's beautiful!

This is perfect! I see this living in the dining room with silverware and linens in the drawers. Or, perhaps an entryway piece would be great! Love it!

Sharon your dresser came out beautifully! I love the fact that you mixed another paint color in the with Antibes green. I have some of that paint color in my arsenal...now I am thinking why not go ahead and paint my roadside find nightstand with some tweaked AS chalk paint. Great idea!!!
Wishing you a wonderful weekend!!

I love it when you clean out your garage! I can hardly believe this is the same dresser after you worked your magic on it. It's gorgeous! The top is so pretty, and I think you made a brilliant choice to stain it. Hat's off to you for mixing that lovely shade of cottage green, too.

Beautiful, Sharon! I love the color and I love the top stained. I have to go through some things I stashed in my craft/sewing room. Small things, but I should just get them painted and get them out of there.
