Keeping warm and painting through the snow and ice!

Cold, snow and ice are nothing new for our area and it is only February after all.

But this winter has been unrelenting. It's been one round of snow after another with prolonged periods of below freezing temperatures. This week alone, we had 6" of snow on Monday, a major ice storm yesterday and looks like another storm is expected over the weekend. I love the beauty of winter, but can we just say enough already!

But when a girl feels the need to paint, she just has to get a little creative. So this week I'm painting in my sunroom. It's the one room in my house with a bit of open space and great light.

The little chairs were a custom order and I loved it when my client brought a bright and sunny piece of scrapbook paper for inspiration. I could decorate a whole house around that sheet of paper! We went with Fresh Sprout and Lap Pool Blue from Behr. I bought little sample pots and mixed them up with my homemade chalk paint recipe.

It's feeling warmer in here already, don't you think!

And I have to say it was kind of fun to paint and watch this going on outside around me.

The chairs went so quickly, that I decided to bring in a few more pieces before the ice storm arrived.

The dresser is another custom order for a sweet little girl named Stella. Her mom came by and picked this dresser out of my stash in the garage.

This is a desk and chair I painted for Stella a while back.

I painted the dresser in Sherwin Williams Antique White (not as bright white as it appears), just like the chair. And I can't even believe that the knobs on both pieces are exactly the same. Little cottage style dressers are my favorite pieces to paint and I love the curvy details on this one!

I also broke open a new can of General Finishes Corinth Blue and tried it out on a little accent table. Great color, right? And this paint goes on like butter and levels beautifully, so no brush strokes.

And I had two little chairs left in the garage, so I finished up my little sample pots from the first round of chairs too.

So there you have it, staying warm inside painting in spite of the cold, snow and ice outside!

And to end on a totally cute and adorable note, here's how sweet baby Clare is staying warm this winter!

Hope you are finding a way to stay safe and warm!

First of all that little Clare is a sweetheart! Good for you for being able to get some painting down. We didn't lose power yesterday thank goodness. I heard a lot of people on your side of town with without. The chairs turned out perfectly. I have been thinking about painting Wynn's chairs just like that. I may be able to convince Rob by showing him how cute your chairs turned out.

I can't believe the desk and the dresser have the same knobs! Talk about luck.
Everything came out so beautiful!
We all have to start saying how much we love snow and then maybe it will stop.

Love the colors! That scrapbook paper is awesome. I need to read about your homemade chalk paint...I just cannot pay (nor do I want to) the prices for ASCP. It's amazing that the knobs on the 2 pieces are the same ~ meant to be! :)

Hang in there with the weather...I know everyone is just sick of it. We had snow today...very rare as we seem to always have ice. It was beautiful as it was falling but as it melts, the ice will form.

I know you're all tired of the white stuff outside, but it sure looks pretty in your photos! I bet that felt great to get some painting done, and who wouldn't fall in love with all those bright cheerful colors? I wish I had your work ethic, but I'm pretending to be a hibernating lazy bear. Little Clare is looking so sweet!!

I'm so happy you found a way to paint. And boy, that snow is something else, I can't imagine all that cold. I'm such a wimp when it comes to cold weather. But it's raining today and I'm so glad. Our poor rivers and lakes need it here in California. And Baby Clare is absolutely beautiful Sharon. Oh-my gosh she is growing so fast!

I am so over winter! We had ice on Sunday, and it's still here... hanging out on the trees. Looks like it's not melting anytime soon. But, it is pretty bling for the trees.
loving all of your latest projects--the colorful ones and the white dresser. I've been a little lazy on projects, but working hard on some hardwood floors. :(
have a great weekend Sharon

Clare is adorable! (and my late mom and sweet niece's name too.) You got a lot accomplished and such pretty colours and pieces too. I would love to find a sturdy set of kids chairs.

What beautiful photos of your winter scenery. We're having the much the same here in Ohio.
I used to paint like that in my house. In fact, summer or winter, I painted in my living room when I had a space at a store. I finally got tired of never having my living room to myself and gave it up. Love that little dresser. It is too cute. Stay warm. We just finished up another couple inches of snow, so I guess it's time to get the snow blower out and clear the driveway for work tomorrow. Hope its not coming your way.

I used to paint in my kitchen all the time. I cannot tell you how many times I was on my knees scraping chalk paint off of my floor. Now I live in San Diego and paint outside anytime I want:)
