Little Black Cabinet

I think this little black cabinet is the furniture equivalent of the little black dress - classic, elegant and goes with everything!

Luckily, this one was in really great shape right from the start.

There was another round of painting in the house last week.

And don't let those peeks of sunshine fool you.

It was another frigid week and the highlight was the two feet of snow that arrived on Thursday!

I know I said I was tired of snow, but this one was beautiful.

It took several rounds of this ...

to find the walks ...

and what Kevin affectionately called ... the driveway to nowhere!
But don't worry, the snow plows arrived eventually!

Isn't snow especially magical at night?
It is so very quiet. I just love the peacefulness!

And as you can see, there were a few peeks of sunshine again today, so I shuffled the little black cabinet outside for a few quick shots.

I used General Finishes Milk Paint in Lamp Black (no priming required), distressed lightly and finished up with a coat of Minwax Wipe On Poly.

And I dressed her up a bit with some pretty yellow crystal knobs.

And there you have it.
A little black cabinet and a whole lot of snow!

This little cabinet is so beautiful! And those new knobs are perfect on it! Gorgeous! And your shots of the snow are beautiful! And that's pretty amazing to get your driveway done before the plows are out! Way to go, Kevin! :o)

What a sharp looking piece! Love the knobs...hardware always gives everything just that little something extra doesn't it. I am finally getting around to trying your homemade chalk paint recommendation - calcium carbonate is ordered. Wish me luck :)

That is a great looking little cabinet, Sharon. Nice job on it and I like the color-it looks almost like a deep charcoal in the light.

Lots of snow-there-here-everywhere this year. I am beginning to think it will never end. xo Diana

I see a 5 drawer dresser that's being painted, also. Will that be part of the spring tag sale? I'm in need of a 5 drawer dresser and that looks perfect.

I love it! I've been seeing a lot of furniture painted black...maybe it's a sign I should give it a go?! Thanks for sharing! ~Lisa @ Practically Perfect Home

The tall five drawer dresser is a custom order and will not be available at the spring tag sale, sorry Tara!

You're so right Sharon. It is the equivalent of a little black dress. Black is such a classic color and it was a perfect choice for your little chest. But I think the yellow knobs really make it. I must remember to get creative with my knobs, it really adds so much. The snow looks so peaceful, stay warm!

Sharon, your photos are gorgeous. I was also tired of the snow but this one was beautiful. Love the cabinet in Lamp Black. I really need to try that color as I have seen Cassie use it on her pieces as well and they are lovely too. My home looks a lot like yours these days :)

THAT is a lot of snow! :) the only way snow gets moved around here is with a shovel. heheheh
I tried to bring stuff in over the weekend, but it was too dangerous for me to even walk outside, let alone try to carry furniture. But today it rained, and we warm up tomorrow and the next few days. I'm so excited!
Your little black cabinet is perfect, just like a little black dress.

I have a cabinet in storage that I painted white for my previous sunroom that I originally had plans to paint black. Hmmmm....We'll have to see where we end up and where the cabinet will fit best in the house...but I think it would look best in black too!

BTW...Painting black over white...do you think I should sand it down completely first?
