A Blue Painting Frenzy

It's that time of year again. The push is on to complete all the unfinished projects hiding out in my garage. My husband and I have a deal, the cars go back in the garage by Thanksgiving. But the mornings are already frosty, so the sooner the better. I also try to use up as many half-empty cans of paint as possible. A few days ago, I went on a little blue painting frenzy!

My first candidate was a sweet little table I picked up at a yard sale - totally love those spindle legs!

The color of the day was Mariner Blue from Martha Stewart, but purchased in the Behr paint and primer in one and mixed with the homemade chalk paint recipe. I've been using this recipe for almost a year now and it hasn't failed me yet!

If you're unsure about adding a bright pop of color to a room, start with a small piece like this.

Love the curvy top!

Next up was this sewing cabinet that I've had all summer long.

This one has a fun mid-century vibe.

I kept the original knobs, but brightened them up a bit with a little Run'nBuff.

I like the antique gold against the blue.

These cabinets look great as side tables next to a bed. The long legs make them a little taller and perfect with today's higher mattresses!

And finally, I went blue with this cute little desk.

It's petite size makes it perfect for a smaller space.

All the pieces started with a very light sanding with a sanding sponge just to smooth out the edges and remove the shine.

Then two coats of paint,

a light distressing,

and a coat of SCJohnson wax.

Three projects done and I finished up my can of paint!

My garage is almost empty.

I went out on a limb and promised Kevin that we'd get his car back in the garage by Sunday evening so he'll be frost-free on Monday morning!

I'll let you know how that works out!

Our cars may never again be frost free, but I did use up some brown paint.... I spilled it on the driveway.

Sharon, it sure is good to have natural deadlines to speed things along, isn't it? I am in frenzy of cleaning and clearing out because my daughter is bringing her boyfriend home to meet everyone at Thanksgiving. Stressful, but I'm getting things done. Sounds like you are making great strides and these little table projects are adorable!

Great pieces and I love the blue. The desk just might be my favourite piece, but I can think of a dozen places in our home for that cute table. I would love to have lots of stuff to paint in our garage, but the prices around here are getting a bit crazy. Doesn't stop me from looking for bargains though.
