I'm writing this post and keeping my fingers crossed that when I hit publish, there will be a working link party at the end of it. Linky Tools is experiencing technical difficulties and all of the thumbnails from the previous parties have disappeared. The links still work, but there are no photos. Spring Burlap Wreaths With Flowers and Nests

If you've been here before, you probably know that my favorite craft project is making wreaths!

 

The girls at Elizabeth & Co. have at least one vintage tag sale per season and I love making a new batch of wreaths for each sale. I call it a wreath making frenzy because I like to break out all the supplies and make a great big batch of wreaths all at once.

Our spring sale is coming up in just a few weeks and nothing says spring more than wreaths with pretty spring flowers and cute little bird nests, complete with eggs! And I love tucking in little pieces of moss for softness. The moss also helps to knit everything together.

 

These wreaths all started with a basic burlap ruffled wreath and they were a snap to create. If you haven't already made one, here's a quick tutorial.

 

 

All you need is a wire wreath form, a roll of burlap, floral wire (sting would work too) and a pair of scissors.

 

Use a small piece of wire to attach the end of the burlap to your wreath form.

Then working from the back of your wreath, simply push the burlap up through the rows of wire, creating small loops.  Here's the first loop.

And here are the first three loops, one in each section of wire.

 

Just keep pushing loops through the rows, top to bottom, then back up again. For this wreath, I used a 12" wreath form and 1 roll of burlap (10 yd).

 

The amount of burlap you need will be determined by the size of your wreath form, the number of loops per section (you can go tight or loose) and how big you make your loops. The key is to make each section consistent. If you like the look of the first section, count the loops per row and just repeat it in the next section. An easy way to be sure each loop is about the same is to use your fingers as a guide. I used two fingers to measure each loop as I went along.

I just stuck my fingers in the loop and pulled the loop down from the back side until it was somewhat snug. For a looser look, use three fingers. I also find these wreaths easier to make by sitting on the sofa and holding the wreath form on my lap (with the burlap rolling across the floor), rather than sitting at a table.

 

You also want the loops to look a little twisty, not exactly a technical term, but you get the idea.

 

And don't forget to add a little wire to the back for hanging.

 

 

These burlap wreaths are cute all on their own or they can be embellished in a million different ways.

 

 

But if you're like me, you are thinking SPRING at the moment!

Well do I even need to say it ... we woke up to a few more inches of snow this morning. It has been quite the winter. But spring wreaths are on my agenda today, so it will at least feel like spring inside! Now let's see what you've been up to .....

I just love this kitchen from Vintage Prairie Style! Keya proves that you can work with what you have and create a gorgeous kitchen on a budget.

Amy from Home Happy Home took advantage of a few snow days and gave her bathroom a fresh new look!

Laurie from Heaven's Walk created a beautiful aged finished on this brand new cabinet!

How pretty is this sunny yellow media cabinet from A Sander And A Prayer!

Love the color and the place setting painted on the tray of this vintage high chair from Namely Original!

Robin from Happy At Home shared all the details for her rustic bead-board box. It creates a wonderful centerpiece, don't you think!

Diane from An Extraordinary Day created a beautiful winter mantel featuring book page snowflakes!

Not only do these red velvet madeleines from Twigg Studios look delicious, but Aimee made the concrete platter  from a silicone tart mould - I want one!

Kimberly from Lou Lou Girls has been on a quest to find the very best peanut butter cookie and she has decided that this is the one. Now you know I'm going to have to give these a try!

Little Black Cabinet

I think this little black cabinet is the furniture equivalent of the little black dress - classic, elegant and goes with everything!

 

 

Luckily, this one was in really great shape right from the start.

 

 

There was another round of painting in the house last week.

 

And don't let those peeks of sunshine fool you.

 

 It was another frigid week and the highlight was the two feet of snow that arrived on Thursday!

 

I know I said I was tired of snow, but this one was beautiful.

 

 

It took several rounds of this ...

to find the walks ...

 

and what Kevin affectionately called ... the driveway to nowhere!

But don't worry, the snow plows arrived eventually!

 

 

 Isn't snow especially magical at night?

It is so very quiet. I just love the peacefulness!

 

And as you can see, there were a few peeks of sunshine again today, so I shuffled the little black cabinet outside for a few quick shots.

 

I used General Finishes Milk Paint in Lamp Black (no priming required), distressed lightly and finished up with a coat of Minwax Wipe On Poly.

And I dressed her up a bit with some pretty yellow crystal knobs.

And there you have it.

A little black cabinet and a whole lot of snow!
