Computer Woes

Just checking in with a quick post to share my computer woes!

Last Monday morning I turned on my computer and found  that everything was encrypted. Couldn't read a thing. I was pretty sure that meant I had a virus, so I immediately turned the computer off and took it in for repairs. I've had a few viruses over the years and they've always been quickly resolved. And coming right on the heels of our Holiday Open House, a few days without a computer felt like a welcome break. I had lots to catch up on around here. I headed right out to the garage, gave it a thorough cleaning and actually parked my car inside. That felt good. I was on a roll!

Well it's been a week now and still no computer. On Saturday I got a call from my computer guy saying that a fix may not be possible and I may need to get new computer. What??? Apparently I have a nasty virus that usually results in an offer from a "computer expert" to "fix" your computer for a hefty sum of money. And of course these "experts" are the very same people who planted the virus in the first place and no, they will not fix your computer. Seriously??? What is wrong with people??? I could go on and on about how I feel about people who intentionally do things that hurt others, but I know you already get that, so I'll save you the drama and negativity.

So at the moment, I am without a computer and my guy is still working on a fix. I'm not willing to accept that all kinds of data, contacts and pictures may be lost. My biggest concern is recovering my pictures. Oh, the pictures!

Lessons learned the hard way - be sure you have comprehensive virus protection and back up everything on your computer regularly!!!

I'm taking my nervous energy out on my house. It is getting so darn clean and organized! I would be tempted to break out the holiday decorations, but we're have a birthday party for someone small and sweet this coming weekend and Christmas décor doesn't quite fit the theme.

Hopefully I'll be back soon!

How well I know computer problems having just undergone a few days without mine, also from everything turning into "code." AWFUL. But on the flip side lots of other stuff gets done. Get those decorations out and go to town.

BOOOOO! that stinks Sharon! We have an external hard drive for our computer. But you just reminded me to back up my most recent pics. So sorry that happened to you.

woe is me! I am so incredibly sorry Sharon. I can only imagine how tough it is for your right now.

All of my pictures are online through drop box.... so that's a good thing. the other stuff would be troublesome, but not near as traumatic.
I don't get why people have to be so mean. :(

hoping for the best my friend!

Oh no, Sharon!
My computer crashed a few months ago, and I thought that I had lost everything; but luckily - we were able to recover about 90% of my photos and documents. It was the scariest thing! I save everything to an external drive AND DropBox now. . . and, of course, bought new Anti-Virusware. I'll keep my fingers crossed for you that you're able to find a solution to your problem. I'm so sorry!
Sending hugs,
Suzanne

I am so sorry, Sharon. That happened to me a while back. I lost about 1/2 of my stuff. My daughter sent her computer to a place in CA? I think and for $65 they were able to recover all her photos and documents and sent them to her on a zip drive. They gave her the option of getting her computer back but there was no "fix" for it.

Hope your guy gets lucky figuring it out. My kids have all gone to Apples which are virus free. xo Diana

Sharon, so sorry to hear about your computer. It never ceases to amaze me at what other people will do. I keep most of my pictures on an external hard drive and back my computer up to it also. But, sometimes I forget to do that. Hope he can get yours fixed. But, look on the good side all that energy will get you ahead for the holidays. Cathy

Oh my! I lost everything a few months after I started blogging and it was months before I got my computer back. Fortunately it didn't cost me anything to have it restored...but I lost everything as well. I am so sorry, Sharon...I really do feel your pain. Glad you're able to use your energy in positive ways. HB to that sweet little one. Already?!!!

Sharon,
So sorry. My hard drive died and I lost everything too. The pictures are the worst. Had just downloaded everything from our Disney trip and deleted them from my camera. It's the worst feeling. I love my NEW MAC computer though! :)
