Perfect Bedside Table

I found this little table at a flea market. The top was a bit worn and the bottom shelf needed a little work, but I was in love with the little shelves. I thought it would make a perfect bedside table.

First up, a thorough sanding and a coat of primer. Then three coats of a soft mossy green (Spanish Moss from Martha Stewart). Yes, I've done a few pieces in this color.

And with these softer colors, I really like doing a white glaze - just a bit of white paint mixed with Valspar's Clear Mixing Glaze works really well.

With this fresh new color, I opted for a cute knob. The original hardware was just a bit too traditional.

And I finished it up with a coat of my favorite wax (Minwax Paste Finishing Wax) for a really smooth finish. More details on glazing and waxing here.

And here she is, the perfect bedside table!

Can't you just see a stack of books on these shelves just waiting for a bedtime read? Or maybe a stack of decorating magazines!

Sharon,
I just KNEW this was one of your fabulous pieces when I was the thumbnail pic of it from Miss Mustard's party! :) I so love how you use the white glaze. I am going to have to try it out soon!

I tried the wax on a piece last week and I couldn't get an even look ~ any additional tips?

Sharon...THAT is a GREAT piece. I love it. I have never glazed with WHITE...but what a great idea. Well, I guess I have "white-washed" a few pieces...and I am ashamed to say that I have never used that paste wax. I'll tell you-this old dog is learning a few new tricks here in Blogland! Hugs- The piece is beautiful and I love that soft green color! Diana

I'm so glad you joined my party. I love your bedside table. What a difference! Your post just gave me the go ahead to try the paste wax, too. I keep running across people who use wax to finish their painted pieces and I've been wanting to try it. I saw Howard's brand mentioned, but I can't find it locally yet. I thought about the minwax but hadn't seen anyone post about it... til you! Thanks you. I'm going to try it. I still plan to find the Howards Citrus one as well. The store where I have a booth carries Howards but they don't have the Citrus wax on hand. They're going to order some but it may be awhile. I want something to try now!!! Howards is supposed to be low VOC and lots of bloggers love the results. Keep it in mind once you run out of Minwax (which I know lasts a long time).
