Curvy Greige Buffet

This is one of my favorite furniture projects to date. She was just a dream to work with!

This is not even my own personal style. I tend to like pieces that are a little more casual. But she's just one, big beautiful piece of furniture! Except for some wear on the top, she was in perfect condition. If you're a furniture purist, perhaps you should just avert your eyes now, because yes, there was paint involved!

I absolutely love the color, but I have no idea what it's called or how it made it's way into my garage. I found it on the shelf with all the other paint. It's Behr color match with the formula on the lid. I am positive that I did not buy it and no one in my family seems to know how it got there. Only a very small amount had been used out of the can, so I decided to give it a try. It's a gray with a good amount of brown, something along the lines of greige. And it's just a really cool color!

I found this piece at my local Goodwill and I was immediately drawn to the curves.

I loved the original hardware and just gave it a coat of old white chalk paint for a nice contrast. I love the way chalk paint adheres to hardware and really brings out the details. It gives a nice aged look and makes painting hardware a breeze!

I gave the entire piece a light distressing and a few coats of poly for durability.

This is also probably the heaviest piece of furniture I've ever worked on, so that why the photos are in front of my garage door. She was just too heavy to move around for a beauty shot. But that's ok, I think she'd be beautiful just about anywhere!

  2. What a beautiful piece! I love the look of the gray color. I'm trying to be brave enough to paint a couple of my own pieces gray, but I'm afraid I won't choose the right shade!

  10. That's one of the prettiest things I've seen from Club G.W. in a LONG time! It's so funny you don't know where the paint came from! Divine Providence, perhaps? lol

    Love the greige....

  12. So beautiful! I love the greige LOL! I get a lot of this style furniture and it is VERY heavy! Once me and my son dropped one on the driveway and it didnt hurt it a bit, a wonder the concrete didnt bust. Beautiful work!

  17. Haha, I have similar paint in my garage, Sharon! I have no idea what it was used for or how it came into the house! I love this piece. I'm hoping to find something with a similar curvy shape when we move to use in my Master.

  18. Cracking up at the mystery paint! This is incredible. Doesn't it make you wonder who actually gave this piece up and DONATED it to the GW? They obviously have not been exposed to the world of Home & Garden blogs! Just a beautiful piece.

  66. That is one heavy buffet! I paint furniture but have to pass up so many pieces because they would be too hard to move around. Love the grayish color you chose. I've been considering a similar color for a dresser I'm hoping to sell (if I don't swipe it for my son's room, that is!). I featured you this week on my blog: http://www.imbusyprocrastinating.com/2011/09/get-me-motivated-monday_12.html
