Fresh As A Daisy Desk and Chair

I love this little desk and chair. The desk color is one of my favorites and the pretty floral fabric on the chair makes for a fresh and cheerful combination!

The desk started out with serious drawer issues. They were all pretty much stuck and warped. I seem to be on a roll finding pieces with drawer problems.

And then there was this nasty burn mark on my top. It even smelled smoky! But sanding and wood filler took care of that.

And after a little TLC, she was looking better than new. I went with Sherwin Williams Reflecting Pool. This is one beautiful color! Do you find yourself returning to favorite colors from time-to-time?

And here's my tip of the day - with all those smooth surfaces (yes, I painted the back too), I broke out the roller on this one.

I started by cutting in all the edges with a brush, then rolling out the large surfaces.

I don't use a roller all that often, but I find that this roller works really well for furniture with large smooth surfaces. It's the perfect size and is specially made for doors and cabinets. It always gives a really smooth finish and no lap marks.

I think the concave foam really makes a difference and these little refills are so handy. And the foam is easy to wash, so a single foam refill lasts a good long time. I also use this roller for a smooth finish with chalkboard paint.

So after the repair work and a thorough scrubbing and sanding, I used two coats of paint and did a light distressing on the edges of the desk.

Isn't she pretty?

But a desk needs a chair and this one was sturdy and the perfect size. It is sometimes hard to find a chair that is narrow enough to fit inside a desk.

The frame got two coats of Old White chalk paint. I do like how easy it is to paint chairs with the chalk paint. Then I brushed a little of the Reflecting Pool paint on an index card and headed to the fabric store for a coordinating fabric.

I think this is one fresh and pretty combination!

Did you fix them, or just not push them in. I've had drawers like that before and it drives me crazy! I love this one Sharon!!

  15. I LOVE the fabric you used on the chair, and am very tempted to ask you where you got it, but Prince Charming has asked that I not buy any more fabric for the next three months. I don't know if I can make it that long! But I love this project.

  44. Sharon, the desk and chair both turned out beautifully. Thank you for sharing the tips about the roller. I have a large armoire that I've been wanting to paint, but have been so daunted by the enormity of the project. Never once did it cross my mind to use a roller -- and even if it had, I wouldn't have know which one to use. Nothing holding me back now...thanks for the inspiration and great advice!

I'm featuring your post on my Facebook page today!
