Be Inspired Features and Link Party #74

Happy Tuesday! Welcome back for features and party day!
 

You know this never gets easy right? So many great projects get linked up every week. I am totally impressed by all of you! Here are a few projects that caught my eye this time around ...

Rachel from Shades of Blue Interiors always has beautiful furniture to share. This empire dresser with turquoise knobs is no exception. The distressing and use of dark wax to tone down the brightness of the green - just perfect!

Rachel's furniture is always beautifully staged and photographed too. This time she hauled that dresser down the street to the take a few stunning beauty shots among the ruins of a castle!!!

I'm totally crushing on deep, dark moody blues at the moment, so I was thrilled when Cassie from Primitive & Proper shared her classic indigo dresser - totally love it!

I'd be a little scared (totally terrified!) if a client requested a painted secretary that included zebra stripes and a butterfly. But if you check out the details over at Uniquely Yours or Mine, you'll see that Susan totally rocked it!

Lisa from Create Inspire was so frustrated with this vanity that she wanted to hack it to pieces. I love that line because I know exactly what she means. I'm currently experiencing those exact same feelings about a table, but I refuse to be defeated by a piece of furniture! And I think we can all see who won out on this one!

I'm loving this little grain sack inspired table from Victoria's Vintage Designs!

Sharon from Lilikoi Joy shared her fabulous bedroom makeover reveal. She is happy to report that "operation sultrify the master bedroom" is now complete!

Don't you just love this charming kitchen from Exquisitely Unremarkable? Well Kim found a clever and thrifty way to turn her farmhouse table into a kitchen island  - it's all about the legs!

Doreen from Hymns and Verses shared a tutorial for her awesome  summer coastal themed photo display. And if you haven't already taken her summer house tour, you better hurry on over - it's swoon worthy for sure!

 

 

And this Cherry Cobbler recipe from The Pin Junkie sounds like the perfect summer dessert. My husband just loves cherry season!

Green Rustic Dresser

 Love this little green rustic dresser!

This one came my way a few months ago while hanging out with Megan and Ryan in downtown Baltimore. We were walking to dinner when we came upon her just sitting there on the sidewalk.

No question about it, she was available! I momentarily thought about picking her up on the way back from dinner, but Ryan was sure she would be gone. Sidewalk finds in his neighborhood get snapped up quickly. And I mean seriously, who could resist that lovely pink over blue crackle finish. And she was FREE!

So the boys just picked her up and we headed back to the car. Besides a bit of my finger, this photo also includes a shot of the Domino Sugars sign - an iconic landmark in Baltimore. One day I'll have to share the views of the harbor from Ryan's rooftop deck - they are simply amazing!

 And this is why I'll never be able to drive a regular car. You just never know what you'll find along the way! ... In my dreams I'll one day have a vintage pickup truck. It will be blue of course and say Elizabeth & Co. Vintage on the door. It will be sooo cute!

But enough daydreaming, let's get back to back to the dresser. .. This was one of those pieces where you just know you have no choice but to embrace her rustic goodness.

I sanded just enough to smooth the rough edges and scrubbed her clean.

The bottoms of the drawers were replaced. She could be old and rustic, but she still had to be functional.

And we added a little back splash where there originally would have been a mirror sitting.

A cute detail, don't you think?

You can appreciate her rustic goodness from the back.

I seem to have accumulated a collection of bed slats. They have a nice rounded edge and work perfectly for the back splash detail.

The entire piece got a coat of primer. I thought she's had enough of the pink and blue crackle finish.

 The color is a really pretty shade of green from Sherwin Williams called Coastal Plain. It's definitely a deeper shade than is showing in the photos. No need to change the hardware. And don't you love the keyholes?

More rustic goodness.

Love the hand painted detail and the textured knobs on this coastal dresser from Susan at Simply Stone Creek. It was inspired by a painting!

Angela from Twelve Oaks Manor added wood awnings over the windows on the back of her house. This is just what I want to do over my patio door!

I always love the cute and thrifty projects from Our Pinteresting Family. This week Megan share these great pallet trays!

Diane from An Extraordinary Day decided it was time to clean out her pantry and created these delicious Cinnamon Pumpkin Muffins!

June Garden Party

Welcome back for our June Garden Party!

To celebrate summer, we're hosting a monthly Garden Party!
I shared features from our May Garden Party earlier this week.

Before we get started, I thought I'd share one of my garden favorites with you. It's a plant that I rarely ever see in person, in garden centers or even in garden catalogs.

It's called a sundrop. It's from the evening primrose family and it's botanical name is oenothera fruticosa.

Sundrops are native to the eastern United States and often grow as wildflowers in open meadows.

They bloom in early summer with bright lemon yellow flowers that remind me of buttercups.

The open in bright daylight and close in the evening.

They grow from dense, spreading roots that can easily be divided.

One of the special things about this plant is that it made it's way to my garden as a gift from a friend many years ago. What started as a small clump has become a drift that has survived all kinds of garden upheavel. Every year about this time, it just makes me smile!

Most perennials can be divided and it's actually a good way to rejuvenate a plant every few years. It keeps then from getting too large and creates wonderful new plants in the process.  The rule of thumb is to divide spring and summer bloomers in the fall. And divide fall bloomers in the spring. I can't think of a better gift than a plant from your garden - it's personal and thrifty too!
