Silverware Plant Markers

On our last crafting day, Megan made a fresh batch of silverware plant markers. Not only are they a great way to keep track of what you're growing, they add a little fun and whimsy to your garden!

I always have a pot of ivy growing on my kitchen windowsill.

A pot of berries on the patio.

Succulents in a vintage colander for a little secret garden.

And nothing beats fresh herbs, like rosemary ...

... and parsley.

Here's what you'll need to make your own ...

*old sliverware in assorted shapes and sizes
*a washable magic marker
*a letter punch set (purchased online here)
*a heavy hammer
*a little black craft paint
*a nice hard sold surface

The hardest step is flattening your silverware - use a heavy hammer and a hard solid surface. Use the marker to place dots where you want your letter - this helps with spacing. One nice firm hit of the hammer creates your letter. Then Megan likes to rub a little black craft paint into the crevices to highlight the letters. That's it - fun and easy!

And aren't they so much cuter than those little plastic markers that come with your plants?
And what a cute gift idea, with or without a plant!

What's growing in your garden?

  2. These are very fun to make. Boy does your arm get tired after a while though. I use a heavy mallet. Ha ha. Love your ivy and wish it would grow here!

  12. The spoon markers look great! I've been wanting to get a set of the stamps, saw them at Michael's but they seem really expensive. Yeah, I'm a cheap skate. Mind sharing where you ordered them?

  16. I'm having a hard time hitting the hammer hard enough to imprint the spoon...might try cheaper flatware.
